“Baby girl, you too fine for that bright a— lipstick!,” -said random man about my red lips

If you believe the gospel of the great poet laureate A$AP Rocky *rolls eyes* then if you’re a black woman of a non-fair complexion than a red pout is an absolute no-go. The Harlem rapper recently broke it down this way to The Coveteur;

“But for real, for me, I feel like with the red lipstick thing it all depends on the complexion. I’m just being for real. You have to be fair skinned to get away with that.”

Coming soon…’Urban Blogger’ documentary featuring ME

21 Apr

Very soon you’ll be able to take a look into the lives of people who make their living writing online. Gavin “Truck” Turner (who’s very talented) is currently putting the finishing touches on his “Urban Blogger” documentary. In it you’ll follow the likes of Funky Dineva, Lexi With The Curls, Gyant of Gyant Unplugged, Donna of Brown Girl Next Door and many others. I’m also featured in it and will be focusing on my beauty blog (which you’re reading right now) and my fulltime position at RollingOut.com.

Truck recently released a trailer for the documentary and you can see me (and my fellow Hamptonian Ellaway) in it.

Should be pretty embarrassing interesting! O_o

I’ll be sure to share the documentary as soon as it’s up! -danni

I recently conducted an interview with Diora Hair about their virgin hair extensions. The brand offers Indian, Brazilian, Malaysian and Peruvian hair in a variety of textures. The interview originally ran on RollingOut.com (my full time job) and I figured I’d share it here as well. Check it out below.  -danni

Diora Hair Extensions Interview

Diora Hair prides itself on offering affordable hair extensions that blend seamlessly with African American and Latina hair. First introduced in 2010, the brand worked exclusively with celebrity stylists Candy Farmer and Gail Hudson whose expert hands primped and coiffed the likes of LisaRaye McCoy, Diana Ross, Tracee Ellis Ross, Cynthia Bailey and Melanie Fiona. Now available online, Diora Hair offers a plethora of imported, untreated Brazilian, Indian, Malaysian and Peruvian extensions in a variety of lengths and textures.

Below, the coiffure experts talk about their budget-friendly tresses and give tips on how to achieve celeb-inspired styles.

Explain to me the different types of hair Diora offers.

We have Brazilian hair, which is lustrous and more silky in texture than Indian hair. [Brazilian] body wave is the top seller and the textures are curly, straight or wavy. We also have Indian hair that straightens and curls without breaking the cuticle, Malaysian hair that is lustrous and Peruvian hair that is thicker in texture and more coarse …

Christina Aguilera’s ‘American Music Awards’ Makeup

21 Nov

After scrolling through pictures for the excessively boring American Music Awards, I landed on a few shots of Christina Aguilera looking nothing short of gorgeous. The songstress arguably had the best look of the show that featured glowing skin from head to toe, a double lash, white liner on the lower lash line and this awesomely blended taupe and amethyst eye. Normally it’s taboo to match makeup to your apparel but in this case it worked—beautifully at that.

Spotted: Beyonce’s Knuckle Rings

18 Nov

In September while with my girlfriends at the Made In America festiva, I spotted Beyoncé and Jay-Z. It was the first time I had seen either one of them in person and for once in my life I got a little starstruck and took out my camera for a paparazzi style ambush. I got some pretty clear shots of Bey glaring looking at me while I snapped away at her talking on the phone. Jay didn’t seem to mind though and he just looked away like he didn’t notice the crazed, wide eyed blogger zoom lensing till her heart was content. After about three minutes security very politely asked me if I “had enough”, and I replied “yes” and walked away beaming…

A Twist Out

Soooo if you know or at least read this blog than you should be fully aware that I’m a lifetime card carrying member of Team Weave. Yet and so, I’ve decided to take a break from my signature super long tresses (My hair has to be at LEAST 22 inches or I’m not happy) and rock the real authentic thing. I haven’t had a relaxer since around 2007 so I never did the big chop. Instead I just wore braids and weaves while my hair transitioned… Continue reading
